Independent book publishing professionals are people who are employed by or provide services to the independent book publishing industry. They include publishers, editors, writers, proofreaders, designers, marketing professionals, distributors, printers, agents, and others.
In 2007, Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group, together with Marilyn Allen (formerly of the Allen O'Shea Literary Agency) and publishing executive Catherine Goulet, established the Next Generation Indie Book Awards to recognize and honor the best independently published books of the year in more than 80 categories. The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is now the largest international book awards program for independent publishers and authors.

ANNOUNCING: The Next Generation Short Story Awards!
The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is pleased to introduce a new not-for-profit international awards program for authors of short stories. This program is designed to celebrate the best short story writing and the creative minds behind the words. In it's inaugural year, the Next Generation Short Story Awards is open to all authors, even first time authors, in the U.S., Canada, or internationally who have an original short story (5,000 words or less) written in English that has not been previously published.
